The spotlight will be on the Class One boys at today’s Sprint Fest 100 metres at G C Foster College in Spanish Town. The first event is set to begin at 2 p.m.

Excelsior High’s duo of Malike Wright and Riquelme Reid will be the top sprinters on show. Wright has a personal best of 10.52 seconds and Reid’s best is 10.54 and they will be gunning to send strong messages to their rivals as they look to improve on their times.

The promising Johan-Romaldo Smythe of Muschett High School, a first-year Class One athlete, will be hoping for a good run in the short sprint following his 200m opening run at Jamaica College recently. There he clocked 21.59 to win his heat to finish fifth overall. St Catherine High’s Patrick McKenzie and Tyrece Foreman along with Antwone Bygrave of St George’s College are expected to make their presence felt in the event.

In Class Two, St Jago’s Ray-J Reece along with Kingston College’s Joshua Spence and Michael Graham of Excelsior are the leading contenders. Kingston College’s duo of Kesmaric Edwards and Daniel Buchanan, along with Amonii Ryan Walters of Excelsior High, should battle for top spot in Class Three.

World under-20 200m bronze medallist, Shanoya Douglas of Muschett, will be hoping to continue her excellent start to the season. Douglas who was an easy winner in the Sprint Fest 200m with an impressive 23.56 seconds will contest the Class Two 100 metres. The talented athlete was very disappointed with her time after clocking 11.56 to win the event at the Purewater/R. Danny Williams/JC meet and she will be hoping to go much faster today.

The Class Four girls will get the action under way at 2 p.m. in the opening event with Class One boys set to close the meet.
