Church hypocrites again
The Editor, Sir:
The church has every right to demand accountability in Jamaican politics, but setting a double standard is hypocritical. The Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC) made no comment on the Trafigura issue nor the Cuban Light bulb saga. Politicising sermons will only further divide church members.
Where were the placards when the Trafigura affair emerged? It seems rather convenient that, all of a sudden the church has a voice. The pope has been accused of protecting some 19 bishops accused of sexually abusing children. When will the local Catholic Church speak out on this matter? It seems the Catholic Church is holding Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) to a higher standard than the accused paedophile priests. When will the JCC comment on the matter? When Jesus comes?
I am, etc.,
