Silly Tivolites

The Editor, Sir:

I am not sure if the persons in Tivoli realise how silly they look defending someone who means neither his community, his country nor their children any good. It is fitting to note that despite the loss of people's life, he continues to hide from his impending future.

I just want to remind the citizens of Tivoli Gardens that they threaten the livelihood of many people who would normally sell in the markets. The jobs of many persons who work in hotels all the way in St James and St Ann could be uncertain.

Occupancy levels are dwindling as guests call to cancel their trip and re-route travel plans elsewhere. There goes our booming tourist arrivals in the summer! And all the money spent on our advertisements and sales campaigns for the island by the Jamaica Tourist Board is now lost.

What of the young people in Tivoli? Is it to say no one cares about these people to ensure they were able to sit their exams? It is a bad state of circumstances when well-thinking adults "punish" their young people and children with such thoughtless actions. As children cry when shots ring out, what will the mothers tell them to console them, I wonder, knowing fully well that it is their own fault why it came to this?

I implore you women of Tivoli Gardens take up your cellphones and call the police, telling them where he is. That is the best thing you could do for your children and your country.

I am, etc.,

M.P. BROWN
