Learn from Tivoli; return to God
The Editor, Sir:
As I reflect on the events of the last few days that have enveloped Tivoli Gardens, in particular, and Jamaica, in general, I can't help but admit that honest minds would have seen it coming. If we allow a monster of crime and violence to spiral so much out of control across this little piece of 'Jamrock', without doing anything decisive to tame it, we are more than fortunate that more stupendous omens had not overtaken us in that head-on collision with the monster and the prevailing political expediency of the day. Too many Jamaicans have stood idly by, watching Jamaica going down, gradually and certainly, into the precipice of immorality, evil and corruption of all brands.
No time for pointing fingers
This is not a time for anyone, at any level or status in this country, to be pointing fingers. All of us must take responsibility for what has befallen us and, once and for all, make a decisive effort to get things right as we seek to move forward. It is not just the garrison-like political tribalism that has contributed to this mess in Jamaica.
Dudus has become the focus for law enforcers in Jamaica and internationally, as one who has disregarded law and order in attaining his personal ambitions. I call on all Jamaicans to see ahead what the results will be when we continue to pay scant regard to the laws of God. Instead of prayer breakfasts and so-called peace initiatives, let us instil within our people to return to the divine commands of God that He has made on all humans through all time, not for their demise, but for their good and benefit.
I am, etc.,
