NOTE-WORTHY: Police memorial needed

Published:Saturday | June 5, 2010 | 12:00 AM

I am deeply concerned about the treatment members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JFC) have received while performing their duty. I am also disappointed in searching the Web for a memorial site that has honoured all JCF personnel who have died in the line of duty and I came up with zero.

We must find a way to support a plan to establish a Jamaica Police Memorial so we can honour all JCF members who died in the performance of duty, so they will not be forgotten. Good men and women must die, but death cannot kill their names.

Our police officers are at war right here at home, as violence against them are on the rise. Their mission is critical, as they are both the first and last line of defence here at home, but they can't see it through without our support. Jamaica is perhaps the only country without a permanent memorial, but I hope this will change.

I have written to the president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica to use its mega power to encourage donations for the memorial. We need a Jamaica Police Memorial, where all fallen heroes will be listed.

False logic

The same 'false logic' that makes it difficult for us to forgive the prime minister, even after an apology, is the same 'false logic' that says when someone is wronged the only response is revenge. The concerted effort from politicians and the society in general has shown that we have slowly forgotten the act of forgiveness. The real issue though, is forgiveness, then what? If the PM makes sorry a habit then the case will be made in earnest.

NOT ONE TAX DOLLAR FOR TIVOLI

The people of Tivoli Gardens (TG) should be made to understand that IF YOU LIVE BY THE GUN ... YOU DIE BY THE GUN.

Part of the problem is that these TG people are too spoiled. They have been given far more than any other community in Jamaica.

I am sorry, but I think that they should be made to live among the rubble or do the repairs themselves. The bullet-riddled buildings must be a constant reminder that they should mend their ways.

The only money that Mr Golding should be allowed to give them would be for counselling for the children. There are no innocent adults in TG. Those women should bury the dead and stop the everlasting bawling!
