'Small-plot' farms the way to go

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I believe that economic recovery must include putting more funds in the wallets of the consumers. In my opinion, it would be a positive situation to look to the 'small-plot farming techniques' that are emerging in other Caribbean countries.

I have heard that this technique has been very successful in Cuba. Also known as 'urban farming', it encourages cultivation of small pieces of land. A farmer can raise his own food, as well as sell the surplus. This would help people to feel more optimistic by taking control over their situation, as well as adding to their financial well-being. This might seem like a small thing but, if many could do this, it could have a much larger effect.
