Garrison residents have rights too
THE EDITOR, Sir:
THIS IS in response to Z. Mclean's letter posted in yesterday's Gleaner - 'Garrison voters must have no say in elections'.
This comment is so narrow- minded and utterly prejudicial! I live in a garrison. I pay all my utility bills. I am gainfully employed and I am a graduate of the Mico University College, as well as the University of the West Indies. Are you telling me I cannot vote? You are rude, to say the least. It is people like you who prevent people like me from really accessing certain things in Jamaica. Once you see my address I am called one of them.
I am calling on the thousands of educated, intelligent inner-city/garrison dwellers to stand up to people like this person! I live in a garrison and might or might not vote for the political party to which it is affiliated. Does that make me bad? Do you know the circumstances why I am still living there? Let me give you one: I can't afford a home due to greedy developers.
Give me a break!
I am, etc.,
C. Dyer
