Disappointing polls

Published:Wednesday | June 30, 2010 | 12:00 AM

The Editor, Sir:

The poll results coming out of Jamaica are disappointing. How soon the people of Jamaica forget about the 18 years given the drivers of the 'Old Bus' to set Jamaica on a path to success, but they failed to do so.

1. They ran the country on high-interest loans for which repayments are now due.

2. Crime began to explode in Jamaica under their watch.

3. Dons were converted to businessmen.

4. Children were kept out of schools because of exhorbitant school fees.

5. Health care was not available to the poor.

6. The nation's infrastructure was badly run down.

7. Poor national output in agriculture.

Jamaica, the world is in a recession, and all things con-sidered, our country is doing well. If the 'Old Guard' had done justice to Jamaica and:

1. Reduced the country's depen-dence on oil.

2. Avoided the temptation to commit generation theft by borrowing high-interest loans.

3. Reduced the waste in government (i.e., the number of paid consultants and travel expenses).

4. Avoided the practice of 'run with it' expenditures.

5. Focused the nation on increasing domestic agriculture production and consumption.

Had all this been done, Jamaica would be a better place today. Get off the prime minister's case and let the man do his job (he that is without sin cast the first stone). Keep the 'Old Guard' in retirement.

I am, etc.,
