Looking through Dick's orange lens
The Editor, Sir:
Once again we have another 'Jesus Christ man' venturing into the world of politics and delivering himself of a totally lopsided, irrelevant exposé on the complex topic of the Coke affair. The Reverend Devon Dick's article of July 1 is comprehensible only if it is viewed through a narrow, orange-coloured lens.
This unfortunate 'man of God' has long seemed to be more of a political apologist akin to 'the Very Reverend' Ronald Thwaites, than someone who should be a Christian spiritual adviser. He begins his letter with a bit of biblical techonospeak, designed to dazzle the uneducated. He then bases the entire article on the unfortunate Hardley Lewin; so very sad. Had he viewed the comedy act which Mr Lewin presented on television on June 30, he might have thought better than to quote this gentleman.
That the actions of 'Constable John Doe' eventually resulted in the dismantling of a criminal enterprise does in not in any way exonerate him of criminal dereliction of duty. This was a uniformed public servant who deliberately went against all the established rules of conduct and distributed confidential information. What was his motive? A visa? We will never know until he is brought to justice.
It is time for us to unmask the Rev Dicks of this island - 'men of God' who hide behind the pulpit to deliver their jaundiced poison pills.
I am, etc.,
ERROL WILLIAMSON
