Teachers, enjoy your role
THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN THIS day and age when we are so busy running our lives, our family and getting caught up in the affairs of our country, we need to leave a positive mark on every route we take. As educators, teachers have the best task ever entrusted to any human being. Our problem is that too often we do not believe in ourselves, or we see as menial the wonderful talent God has entrusted us with.
Each second, each minute, each hour, each day, each week, each month, each year thousands of fertile minds sit before us expecting us to be role models, parents, friends and facilitators. What we do in these seconds will either make them or break them. Do not shy away from your task, get committed and do your best. When you come upon an obstacle, like all good hurdlers, try and try again until you get to the finishing line.
Get behind the wheel
In an age that is technologically driven, it is either that we get driven out or we get behind the wheels and steer down the highway of knowledge. As we drive, sometimes we have to exceed the speed limit in order to be ahead of the game. Other times, we have to stay in line and allow a pilot to take us in. Whatever the speed, make sure that the game plan we have is geared to make our students competent, com-petitive, and most of all, aware of their worth and their need to guide their own vessel.
Enjoy the summer
It is summer time. Find a quiet retreat, let your hair down, put your feet up, and enjoy it while it lasts. Get a book, learn a thing or two - you need to refresh yourself for the new school year. You dare not stay behind. Your job is the best there is. The funds may not be enough for your family and you; it may not seem to be able to share with the hungry eyes at school, but he who increased five loaves and two fishes has your back covered. As you go through each day, be the best that you can. Enjoy your role; there is none like it.
I am, etc.,
