The late Rita Marie Elliot was remembered as a woman who cared deeply for her family and friends.

As the raindrops sprinkled the courtyard of the Stella Maris church, Shortwood Road, St Andrew, mourners took their places in the sanctuary to celebrate the life of an outstanding soul.

Elliot passed away on July 27 leaving husband Herb, daughter Stephanie, sister-in-law Fay, other relatives and friends.

In his remembrance, the Rev Canon Clarke said Elliot had left a trademark behind, as she touched the lives of many. Her determination and drive for continued success, in all her endeavours proved to be exemplary for many individuals who she came across.

"She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, friend, who cared not only for herself, but for everyone ... . Today we celebrate the life of a woman who was a faithful servant and we can be assured that her soul will be at peace," Clarke said.

Elliot was also remembered as an accomplished journalist. She was a weekly contributor to The Sunday Gleaner where her column, 'Green Thumb', appeared in the Outlook magazine. Readers depended on Rita for home-and-gardening tips and critical information on how to care for their homes. Her family members and friends were urged by Rev Clarke to continue her legacy, as she was, indeed, a remarkable woman.
