Marigold Harding is St Andrew's new custos

Marigold Harding, wife of president of the Senate Oswald Harding, has been appointed the new Custos Rotulorum of St Andrew.

The noted horticulturist succeeds Bishop Dr Carmen Stewart, who served as custos of the parish from her appointment in October 1992 until her retirement on August 8.

Governor General Sir Patrick Allen made the appointment on Monday, acting on the recommendation of Prime Minister Bruce Golding.

As custos, Harding will be the representative of the Governor General in St Andrew.

Among her responsibilities, she will serve as chief magistrate for the parish and ensure that there are sufficient justices of the peace to serve the Petty Sessions Court and communities throughout St Andrew.

In announcing the new custos, Sir Patrick expressed appreciation and gratitude to Bishop Stewart for her hard work and dedication during her tenure and on the occasions that she served as deputy governor general.
