It was a small but excited group of friends and family that turned out for Charmaine Gooden Monteith's book launch at the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) offices on Church Street, Kingston, last Thursday.

Gooden Monteith launched two books at the event, Moments: Motivational and Inspirational Thoughts, and Winning PR and Communication Strategies:Toolkit for Educators. There is also an accompanying CD for Moments, which was played just before the start of the launch.

The release of Gooden Monteith's books comes after several months of hard work, work made even more tedious since the former radio presenter decided to go the self-publishing route.

According to Gooden Monteith, the idea to write Moments came to her one night when she was about to retire to bed. She was hit with a sudden and unexpected burst of inspiration, and immediately jumped out of bed.

"I got up and just started writing these thoughts down. I wrote about 50 that night," she said.

Winning PR and Communication Strategies provides practical strategies for school leaders, parents, teachers, as well as professional organisations, to improve the customer service they offer to their clients.

Moments, on the other hand, is a collection of uplifting thoughts and messages that the writer hopes will help readers in difficult times. Gooden Monteith said the book is designed to inspire and encourage, highlighting the importance of God in everyday moments.

Gooden Monteith is a trained educator with expertise in communications, human-resource management and education leadership. She was also producer and presenter of the popular 'Teachers' Time' radio programme.
