Dispute leaves one dead, one injured

What started as a simple dispute in Rosemary Lane, central Kingston, yesterday ended with one man dead and another in hospital with life-threatening wounds.

Up to late yesterday, the dead man had not been identified, while the injured man was said to be a 22-year-old of a Rosemary address. His name is being withheld.

"Is like just before 7 a.m., the youth on the lane, and the man a pass him and ask the youth why him a look pon him so. The youth say, 'You can't stop me from look', and the man just rush him and start stab him up," a resident told The Gleaner.

According to the resident, he left after that incident and was not sure what happened next.

But when police investigators arrived on the scene, the 22-year-old had been taken to hospital while his attacker lay dead with multiple chop and stab wounds.

The man's body lay on the road, his head covered by a large metal drum.

According to the investigators, it appeared that the man, who residents say was a deportee, was mobbed after he stabbed the young man.

No one was arrested in connection with the killing.

Almost 970 persons have been murdered across the island since the start of this year.
