Cash Plus case delay

An outstanding statement yesterday led to a delay in the transfer to the Home Circuit Court of the fraud case against former Cash Plus boss Carlos Hill.

When the case was mentioned, prosecutors said they were asking for another mention date. The case was set for mention on November 16 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court when it is expected that the statement will be ready.

Hill is to face trial in the Home Circuit Court for fraudulently inducing persons to invest in the failed investment scheme. The maximum sentence for the offence is seven years' imprisonment.

Carlos Hill, his brother Bertram Hill and former Cash Plus Chief Financial Officer Peter Wilson are also charged with obtaining money by false pretences and conspiracy to defraud arising form the failed investment scheme.

Golding to address UN

Prime Minister Bruce Golding and senior government officials will travel to the United States today to attend the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which he will address next Monday.

During his visit to New York, the prime minister will also engage in other high-level meetings.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dr Kenneth Baugh, as well as top officials from Baugh's ministry and the Office of the Prime Minister, will join Golding in participating in the General Assembly which will discuss global security, recovering from the global economic crisis and other issues. More than 145 presidents and heads of state will participate in the summit.

Tomorrow Golding and his team will attend the plenary session of the Clinton Global Initiative in an effort to discuss the economic crisis, followed by a session with the president of the Inter-American Development Bank, Alberto Luis Moreno.
