Pennington, St Catherine:

Although most of his crops have been destroyed by flood waters dumped on the island by Tropical Storm Nicole, Phillip Gordon, a 32-year-old farmer of Pennington district in north-west St Catherine, is happy that his life has been spared.

"Right now the breeze blow down all me banana. Me just have to cut them off and set them back up now. All me cane and pepper blow down. Me can't make no money out of them right now, although we have a proper market," he explained to The Gleaner recently. Gordon is also involved in fishing

He said that his house was not severely affected by the heavy rains. He added that several residents of the deep rural communities of Pennington and Juan de Bolas were concerned about the deteriorating state of the road.

"Right now if rain fall you have to fret to go up the road if you have a car a drive. If you going Juan de Bolas Primary, the school road burst in two now since the rain fall."
