NCB to continue paying some CSEC fees
Students islandwide sitting their Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC)/ Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Principles of Accounts (POA) and Principles of Business (POB) subjects in June 2011 will have their examination fees paid in full by the NCB Foundation.
In a release, the Foundation said the move was a continuation of the its CXC/CSEC POA and POB fee sponsorship programme established in 2003 to assist students at the secondary level in meeting the minimum requirement entry to a tertiary institution.
Each year under the programme, more than 4,000 applications are paid for by the NCB Foundation for students wishing to take CXC/CSEC POA and POB. Since the programme began, NCB Foundation has donated more than $60 million which has funded 62,000 student entries.
Last year, the Foundation paid out $8.5 million to subsidise exam fees for 4,484 student entries. Over the years both schools and students have continued to make use of the programme which continues to provide financial support to high school students across Jamaica.
To qualify for sponsorship, schools are expected to have a 90 per cent sit rate in the respective subject areas students' averages in both subject, must be 70 per cent or higher.
