Published:Monday | November 1, 2010 | 12:00 AM

Jamaica is to host the Second North American Regional Caribbean Congress on Epilepsy scheduled to take place in St Andrew from November 5-6.

The congress, which will be held at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston, will bring together professionals involved in epileptic care from Jamaica and the Caribbean, who will describe the current status of epilepsy care in their territories, including Haiti and Puerto Rico, as well as original Caribbean research.

The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Solomon Moshe, president of the International League Against Epilepsy, who will speak on global and regional efforts to improve the care of people with epilepsy.

The league, which has membership of over 15,000 in more than 100 countries, seeks to bring epilepsy out of 'the shadows' by properly identifying, understanding and responding to the prevalence of the condition.

Admission to the main conference session, which gets under way at 3:45 p.m. this Friday, is free but there will be a cost for the sessions on Saturday. Four sessions will be held on Saturday with the first starting at 8:30 a.m.
