29,000 refund records incomplete - NHT

The National Housing Trust (NHT) says it is getting ready to process refund contributions for those who apply.

But the Trust also says there are 29,000 contributors whose records are incomplete and who could run into problems if they apply.

Refunds are available to contributors seven years after a particular year of payments to the trust.

So the next set of refunds are applicable up to year 2003. Applications will be processed starting January.

There is a way to ensure your name is not among the 29,000. The NHT has created a portal on its website - www.nht.gov.jm/refunds-advisory - for contributors to check their status.

missing NIS numbers

Persons whose names appear on the list are urged to have their employers update their records.

Suzanne Wynter Burke, acting senior general manager for customer-relations management, says the major problem lies with missing National Insurance Scheme (NIS) numbers.

"If a contributor's name appears on this list, he or she should make a note of the documents required and take them to the NHT," the trust said in a statement. These documents include the NIS card, the TRN card, a valid ID, proof of employment during 2003, and marriage certificate or deed poll if name has been changed since 2003.
