The National Gallery of Jamaica will participate in Christmas in the City on Wednesday, December 15.

To mark the occasion, the gallery will extend its opening hours to 10 p.m., which will give members of the public additional time to view permanent exhibitions and the 2010 National Biennial, Jamaica's premier national art exhibition which runs from December 12 to March 5. The National Biennial offers a cross-section of recent developments in Jamaican art, from the conventional to the experimental, and by well-known and new artists.

For the duration of Christmas in the City, the National Gallery admission fee will be discounted to $200 for adults and $50 for teachers accompanying students and persons over 60 years old. Children and students with ID, as usual, enter free of cost. Guided tours have also been discounted to $1,800 but must be booked in advance with the Education Department (email: natgal-edu@cwjamaica.com or phone: 922-1561/ 3 or 618-0654/5). The gallery can accommodate tour groups of up to 30 persons.

Discounts

The gallery will also offer special discounts in its gift shop, which is well stocked with books on art and culture, Christmas and other note cards that feature Jamaican art, art T-shirts, original art and craft, and fine gift items - a good opportunity to buy original Jamaican products for your Christmas gifts! Refreshments will be available for sale in the coffee shop.

Revenues from admissions, tour fees, donations in the donations box, and gift and coffee-shop sales help to support the programmes and exhibitions of the National Gallery.

The National Gallery looks forward to your company when Downtown comes alive on December 15!
