Mother's makes changes to cash in on growing patty market
Mother's Enterprise Limited, the operator of the Mother's restaurants will be opening another outlet in the Corporate Area and expanding two other existing locations as it positions the business to meet what its operators said is growing customer demands for its products.
Another Mother's Patty Express opened in the busy Springs Plaza on Constant Spring Road on December 10 - bringing the number of restaurants to 20; the same day it took over management of the Devon House Bakery under contract from the company overseeing the historic Hope Road property.
Mother's Managing Director Carlysle Hudson told Wednesday Business that, in the remodeling of the 3,000 square feet of space in the Half-Way Tree area, the equipment to outfit it was a J$22 million investment.
The new outlet will generate 25 jobs, Hudson said.
"The restaurant will serve the full range of Mother's patties as well as soups and a variety of pastries produced by our new bakery division," said Hudson.
Meanwhile, the company is reshaping and expanding its Liguanea and Linstead restaurants in line with growing sales trends and customer demands, Hudson said.
"The investment to upgrade the kitchen at Liguanea is to facilitate adding breakfast to the menu (and) the addition of the upper floor provides additional seating for customers at Linstead," he said.
Hudson said the expansion was being undertaken at this time to meet customer demand.
"For some time our customers in Liguanea have been asking for breakfast to be served," he noted.
Breakfast is said to be popular at other Mother's locations.
The added business sees Mother's reporting a 16 per cent growth in sales for 2010 over 2009, and a 10 per cent growth in customer traffic.
"This is attributed to creative marketing, our focus on quality and customer service and the efforts of our team of employees," said Hudson.
He added that the growth had taken place despite an almost 30 per cent jump in operating costs.
