Shaw regrets Chin's passing
Prominent businessman Howard Chin, operator of Brumalia House in Mandeville, Manchester, has died at age 54.
Yesterday, Minister of Finance and the Public Service Audley Shaw said Chin's death marked a big loss for Manchester and the Jamaican business community.
Brumalia House is recognised as one of Mandeville's largest hardware stores.
Shaw, who is also member of parliament for North East Manchester, noted that Chin had been pursuing plans to list on the Junior Stock Exchange next year.
"Howard was an astute businessman whose interests reached beyond his own concerns; he had a keen interest in the economic development of the country," the finance minister said, while extending his condolences to Chin's widow Donna, their children, and his entire family.
Thousands added to voters' list
Thirty-five thousand and seventy-six eligible electors have been added to the new voters' list published by the Electoral Office of Jamaica yesterday.
Meanwhile, the names of 2,018 voters were deleted, as they have either died or migrated.
The new list, dated Monday, November 30, now has a total of 1,583,537 electors. The previous list contained 1,550,479.
The national voters' list, which contains the complete list of persons registered and eligible to vote, is updated and released every six months on May 31 and November 30.
The new list, originally scheduled for release on November 30, was delayed with the calling of the recently held by-election in North East St Ann.
Copies of the new voters' list will be placed at post offices and selected public buildings.
