FAMILY AND friends said bon voyage yesterday to a man who was praised for his great contributions to the national and regional shipping associations.  A thanksgiving Mass was held at the Sts Peter and Paul Church in St Andrew for Ludlow Stewart O.D., JP, past president of the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) and the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA).

He passed away on December 20.

"The things that outmatched his dapper and debonair appearance were his integrity, professionalism, discipline, and service," said Roger Hinds, president of the SAJ.

David Harding, past president of the CSA, added that Stewart's "walk was so elegant he floated".

Throughout his career, Stewart, born in September 1931, started with the United Fruit Company in 1957 and made his way to freight manager by 1972.

Harding, who is also chairman of Barbados Port Inc, spoke at the service as a friend of 'Luddy'.

He spoke of the man who "looked presidential but was no longer president".

"If history records my own presidency with a passing grade, (Stewart) provided me with the homework and foundation," Harding said.
