Grenada seeks agri, energy assistance from Brazil

Grenada is looking to Brazil for assistance in developing its agriculture and energy sectors.

Prime Minister Tillman Thomas made the request during talks with Brazilian presidential envoy, Jose Marcus Venicus De Souza and Brazil's Ambassador-designate to Grenada, Ricardo Diniz, in Grenada on Monday.

"We are very excited about the possibility of deepening relations with Brazil. We believe there are areas in which Grenada can benefit significantly from this relationship, especially in the area of agricultural development and energy," the prime minister said.

Both Prime Minister Thomas and De Souza spoke of "a resolve to deepen relations" between the two countries.

A government statement issued after the talks said that the delegation also sought the support of Grenada for Brazil's candidate for the senior post in the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation.

"We are at a time of reciprocal discovery. There are many, many avenues we can explore together," the envoy said.

De Souza also announced that his country's foreign minister will accompany the candidate to Grenada during the meeting of Caribbean foreign ministers and the Caribbean Community Inter-sessional summit scheduled for February 25-26.
