Movements: Finance exec takes charge at Courts
Dennis Harris, deputy managing director of Unicomer Jamaica Limited, the operator of the Courts furniture retail chain, has stepped into the breach following the passing of Hayden Singh.
Harris is acting general manager for the 29-store chain.
As regional finance director for Unicomer, he will do double duty until further notice, communications representative Carren Royal said Wednesday.
Singh, who joined Courts Jamaica in 1992 as operations director, passed away unexpectedly on February 19. He was laid to rest yesterday.
Singh joined Courts as operations director, and was promoted to managing director in 2000. Under his leadership, the chain expanded from 17 stores in 1992 to the current 29 nationwide.
Courts Plc, a British family-owned but publicly traded UK company which failed in 2006, was ordered sold off by the bankruptcy court. The Carib-bean operations were acquired by the Siman family of South America.
Singh was retained as head of the Jamaican chain even after the acquisition.
