It's the perfect setting to schmooze and impress corporate clients. And the elegant 19th-century Jamaica heritage site, Devon House, was the venue for Tuesday night's Corporate Client Mixer hosted by the National Commercial Bank's (NCB) Marjorie Seeberan and Septimus 'Bob' Blake. Naturally, the entire affair was under the distinguished patronage of Group Managing Director Patrick Hylton.

Guests climbed the imposing marble steps to be greeted on the wraparound verandah by hostesses wearing period costumes and waiters sporting variations of the national dress. Few entities can throw a party like the folks at NCB. You need four times the body parts, limbs and brain power to absorb all the elements of their usually well-thought-out package.

Upon entry, each guest is greeted with a warm welcome by the 'master' and mistress' of the great house, followed by cocktail and complimentary cigar rolled on spot by Joseph Adduci and his attractive team. Once on the lawns, the bank's public relations team was on hand to escort guests to the primary hosts for formal welcome and greetings; and immediately a number of top-level executives, as well as members of the island's elite business community, materialise at your elbow, ready to engage you in any number of topics - from healthy profits to the relatively stagnant economy and back to even more healthy profits in the future.

Dennis Rushton and Friends provided music and the competent great house staff provided guided tours of the historic landmark for interested guests. Jacqui Tyson and her team provided a scrumptious feast of shrimp, lobster, roast pork loin, jerked chicken, lamb and a delicious seafood medley that had everyone talking. Her servers were never far away and the preparation that began some 24 hours earlier paid dividends. Many items were prepared at the venue for fresh service.

Not a night for speeches, Hylton thanked all for coming and for their continued business. He said the success being enjoyed by the bank was due largely to their continued support and patronage. "We are committed to excellence in customer relations, to improving your financial circumstances and providing you with innovative solutions to your problems," he said.

To top it all, everyone took home Sonia Dunstan's specially packaged miniature bankra baskets of Jamaican condiments and candles.
