GUYS HILL, St Catherine: THIRTY-SIX-YEAR-old Kirkpatrick Walker has been plying his trade for 20 years. He is one of several cultivators who benefited from recent Farmers' Markets held in Kingston and St Catherine.
"It was a great help. Thumbs up to the Government and Dr Christopher Tufton for that. I did very well there," he smiled proudly. "I carry tomatoes, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, dasheen, and coco. It was real good there."
Walker, who is one of 120 participants in the 'Diversify to Compete' project funded by the European Union Banana Support Programme and the Constituency Development Fund, cultivates his crops on eight acres of land in Guy's Hill.
