Nesbeth still on the run
Almost three months after Nicholas Nesbeth, an alleged key member of the Dog Paw criminal gang, mysteriously walked out of police custody, he remains on the run and lawmen are unable to provide any further information on how he escaped.
Nesbeth, better known as 'Fire Key', was held little more than 24 hours after the arrest of gang leader Christopher 'Dog Paw' Linton.
At that time, police sources described him as the bookkeeper and financial brains of the gang whose extortion business netted millions of dollars each year.
But days later, Nesbeth was back on the road in mysterious circumstances and it was speculated that he might have been mistakenly released from the maximum-security police complex at Mobile Reserve, Kingston.
With speculation swirling, Police Commissioner Owen Ellington ordered a speedy investigation, but up to yesterday deputy commissioner in charge of operations, Glenmore Hinds, had little to offer in the way of an update.
"We are still pursuing Nesbeth and the investigations," Hinds told journalists during a media briefing at the Police Officers' Club yesterday.
"I am not in receipt of the file yet and when it is done, it would go to the commissioner who is the person who called for the investigations," Hinds added.
