Principal feels threatened
Principal of Holmwood Technical High School, Paul Bailey, said he has had to put personal security measures in place as a result of death threats reportedly made against him.
Bailey said while he has not personally received any threats, his staff has told him that persons have accused him of being part of a superstitious and sinister plot to guarantee Holmwood's success at the national high-school athletics championships.
"The argument going around is that every time after Champs, we have a fatal accident. They are saying I am a Lodge member and that I am sacrificing students in order to win," Bailey said.
He added: "That is utter rubbish! I am not a lodge member, and I have never been a lodge member."
He said he was advised by friends and students to stay away from the hospital where several of his injured students had been taken, and not to sleep on the school's compound.
Three Holmwood students died in a traffic crash in Christiana Thursday morning. The crash followed one in May, 2008, just after the school won Girls' Champs. One student died in that crash.
Last Saturday, Holmwood retained the championship for the ninth consecutive year.
