Election expenses cut for 2012

THE GOVERNMENT is to spend slightly less on elections this year, figures contained in the 2011-2012 Estimates of Expenditure reveal.

Some $761 million was spent on election-related activities last year, and the administration is proposing to spend $746.5 million on elections this year.

Of the amount earmarked, $11.2 million has been proposed for the holding of elections, $368.2 million is a grant for the registration of voters, and $367 million is to be used for the administrative expenses of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica.
