PRIORY, St Ann:

FRESH FROM its international debut at the Grace Jamaica Jerk Festival in Florida last November, the Jamaica International Kite Festival (JIKF) returns for its 2011 edition on Easter Monday, April 25 at the spacious Richmond Estate in Priory, St Ann.

The show will be preceded on Sunday, April 24 with carnival of flights, as the promoters seek to add more entertainment to the Easter weekend.

Billed as Jamaica's largest and most exciting family fun day the show will feature more than just kite flying and stage acts.

"Richmond Estate will be transformed into an awesome kite festival village where locals, as well our friends from overseas, can converge to experience spectacular displays of various kites, kite-flying competitions, colourful booths and stalls reflecting the true Jamaican spirit and culture," said event director Courtney Wallace in a release.

He added: "We will incorporate various themes of local cuisine and culture such as the jerk corner, jelly and sugar cane as well as fashion and the performing arts with a main grand stage area professionally outfitted. Children have the time of their lives in the well appointed kiddies village, complete with all the rides and slides."

In the kite-flying department, last year's participation in the Miami jerk festival seems to have had a magnetic effect as kite flyers from Miami have been confirmed for this year's JIKF.

Other activities will be a demonstration of remote-controlled planes and cars.

It is expected that kites of varying sizes, shapes and colours will grace the skies above the Richmond Estates grounds.
