Enjoy food from Di Yaad
Latoya Grindley, Gleaner Writer
Welcome to Di Yaad! Conceptualised by Romeich Major, this outdoor restaurant serves some of the most popular dishes found in local cuisine and loved by Jamaicans.
Located at 1 Campbell Boulevard in St Andrew, the restaurant, which is a month old, is apparently favoured by many already. "Business is really good. I can't complain because, as a new restaurant, we are already getting good support."
A fashion designer, music producer now eatery operator, Major says adding the restaurant to his portfolio is just another exploration of his entrepreneurial skills.
Open on weekdays, Major says he has already secured repeat business with many corporate companies, as well as from the entertainment fraternity. "There are some companies that use me to provide lunch services daily."
As part of the restaurant's attractive offerings, customers in the Corporate Area can benefit from free delivery on early orders. "We have three delivery men who are sent out on the roads to deliver lunch. And depending on the number of orders, I also deliver. because the bikes that the delivery men have cannot take more than a certain number of lunches," says Major.
Good-tasting food
The most important element in operating a restaurant is serving good-tasting food. And while agreeing, Major said that his staff was carefully screened and selected. "We have a head chef here who has been in the food industry for 30 years. In total, we have three chefs working here and about seven other staff members."
Striving and to maintain the local image, Major says the restaurant also tries to satisfy the tastes of Jamaicans. "Jamaicans love to see a lot to choose from. So apart from the meats we have a lot of side orders for them to choose from and they can also get more than one."
With the primary focus on serving lunch, the spot then becomes a chill spot after 5 o'clock in the evenings. "After the lunch hour, persons can come by to hang out and unwind, because we have a nice and laid-back atmosphere here."
Even though the restaurant is closed on weekends, customers can place orders on fish dishes through the 'fish to order' service.
