National Bakery helps to save the environment - Biodegradable bread bags are here
National Bakery has announced its new 100 per cent biodegradable bread and roll bags at a breakfast for students of New Day Primary School in Grants Pen on Wednesday, April 14. National's spokesperson Emprezz Mullings met with the primary school students and explained the importance of the use of biodegradable packaging. She gave out prizes to those who answered questions about the environment.
Management and staff from National Bakery served the 320 New Day Primary School students with breakfast prepared by the school's Home Economics Department with, of course, National's bread and rolls.
New Day was chosen because of the school's outstanding record with environmental projects. They are past winners of the Jamaica Environmental Trust's (JET) School Award and are currently preparing a project on 'Keeping our Gullies Clean' for the JET Competition.
principal delighted
Garfield McDonald, principal at New Day, expressed his delight at being the chosen school for the announcement of the environmentally friendly product. "We are happy to have been chosen as our school promotes environmental awareness and responsibility," he said.
National Bakery has switched all its bread and roll bags to a new 100 per cent biodegradable plastic. The plastic is now made with an additive that will break down within nine months to five years wherever they are disposed of and do not require special handling.
The bags look the same and are now stamped with a small biodegradable seal. The change in all National Bakery's bread and roll bags will not affect the cost of the products.
