When Facey Commodity, distributors of Kraft Foods, visited The Gleaner offices last Friday, it was to show off the versatility of four of its products - Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Oscar Mayer sausages and and cold cuts, Tang and Crystal Light.

Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese is much more than a pro-duct which is used to make cheesecakes or to spread on to bagels. According to Melissa Bennett, brand manager for Kraft, "It has a different dimension. It's lighter and more versatile."

This versatility was put to the test in the dishes they prepared. They included Philly Cream Cheese Chicken Casserole, Sweet Potatoes with Philly Cream Cheese and a tasty snack of Philly Strawberry Cream Cheese with Holey Bulla.

The products are available in original with flavoured spreads including strawberry, garden vegetables and chives and onions. Bennett also added that it's a great ingredient to use when making your own salad dressing or an ingredient while making a home-made stuffing.

Next on the list was the Oscar Mayer Turkey Ham Wraps, made with one of Oscar Mayer's signature cold cuts- turkey ham. Bennett was sure to point out that while all the Oscar Mayer cold cuts are ideal for sandwiches, stretch the limits and try unique recipes.

Similarly, Kielbasa sausages, also under the Oscar Mayer brand, are ideal when grilled or popped in the toaster oven. Want to get a little more creative? Try the Oscar Mayer Sausage kebab, a mixture of sweet from the pineapple and the crunch and distinct flavour of sweet peppers.

Drinks

Their five-calorie drink, Crystal Light, was also on show. The instant drink mix, available in pink lemonade and lemonade, is ideal as a light refreshing drink especially for the health-conscious persons.

According to Bennett, Tang, a big crowd-pleaser, is still one of the favourites for Jamaicans. "It's something we never leave home without," she said, with fruit punch being one of the preferred flavours. Like the other products, they are not short on versatility, with 14 flavours available.

Read some of the feedback that individuals gave on the recipes.

"

  • Like the assortment. The salt fish plantain is new to me. Very nice!
  • I liked the Crystal Light pink lemonade, it's tangy but not too much so.
  • I loved the Crystal Light drink - it was nice and tangy. Very full of flavour! I'd imagine one packet can make a lot of flavourful drink.
  • The Fruit Punch Tang was actually really awful. It had a powdery aftertaste that wasn't very pleasant. And it almost tasted like medicine.
  • The Strawberry Philadelphia spread wasn't so good either. I preferred it with bulla instead of with crackers. But overall, it tasted like strawberry powder mixed out in water.
  • The Oscar Meyer weiner was really very good. Especially with the strips of sweet pepper - nice combination.
  • The sweet potato and cheese was good, as was the potato salad.
  • I am already a fan of these products.
  • Tasty and attractively displayed.
