Night policing gets strong boost
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has renewed its resolve to manage and coordinate operational activities at nights.
Police Commissioner Owen Ellington, who made the announcement in the weekly Force Orders to the men and women under his command, said current crime statistics have shown that the majority of major crimes are committed between 6 p.m. and midnight.
"Evidence suggests that we are losing out on our effectiveness at nights due to lack of command and control. This requires that a significant portion of policing activities should be concentrated over this period," read a section of the Force Orders.
The Headquarters Command and Control Team, established to manage night policing, comprises senior officers from various departments within the JCF.
"It will have responsibility to maintain command and control of the force at nights within the context of managing and co-ordinating planned operations, giving directions, and mobilising resources in response to unexpected major incidents," the Force Orders said.
