SANGUINETTI, Clarendon:

RESIDENTS OF Sanguinetti and its environs in North West Clarendon are urging the councillor for the area, Richard Azan, to take the necessary steps in having the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) collect their garbage in a timely manner.

Residents told The Gleaner that they have been experiencing difficulties over recent weeks in getting their garbage removed from their gates, as the truck which usually visits their community once per week has slacked up on its schedule.

tired of waiting

Calie Sinclair complained that for over two weeks he has been waiting on the garbage truck to remove waste from his gate, but his wait seems unending.

"I am tired of waiting because the longer I wait is the more the garbage rots; and flies and rodents have started to appear," said Sinclair.

He pointed out that several residents in the community of Sanguinetti have become fed up with the system of garbage collection in the area, and have expressed disgust with what is taking place.

Checks with several sections of the community revealed that residents have been bagging their garbage as requested by the NSWMA, but whenever it stays at their gates for too long, dogs and other animals scatter the waste, compounding the problem.

When The Gleaner passed the Sanguinetti Primary School and a restaurant in that area on Sunday, garbage could be seen scattered along embankments, and this has forced residents to use creative means to secure their waste. One resident even went as far as bagging her garbage and tied it on a street sign to prevent it from being scattered by animals.

Richard Azan said he is aware of the difficulty being faced by the residents. He told The Gleaner that he has made contact with the NSWMA and was assured by an officer that the garbage would be collected.

He was, however, unable to say what was the reason for the delay in garbage collection.
