BRAETON, St Catherine:
ONE COULD hardly believe that Doris 'Cissy' Taylor is 100 years old, due to her vivacious nature and her keen sense of humour.
"Mi born April 4, 1911 in Morant Bay, and mi live deh fi years, but now mi live here so," Taylor told The Gleaner recently when we visited her home in Braeton, Portmore, St Catherine.
"Smile Cissy the man want to talk more with you, him want to know more about you, " her grand daughter, Nicola Bogle, said.
"Den if di man want fi ask mi question him fi just do it, afta mi not stopping him from talk to mi," Taylor retorted.
Taylor, who spent most of life in St Thomas, is the mother of four children. She said she has never been married.
"Married good fi people who can manage it. If you are living a good life, nutten no wrong, mi done argue wid yuh," the senior citizen told her granddaughter June Wint.
Meanwhile, Taylor declared that she loves to be around her family, as she receives good care, although she maintains a level of independence.
"She is blind. However, that is a small problem as she bathes and feeds herself; otherwise, it is a joy to take care of her," caregiver and granddaughter Sandra Facey said.
Taylor worked in the coconut industry for many years, where she made cooking oil. Bogle said she recalls, vividly, going with her father to visit Cissy, who would make sure she got bulla and other goodies.
