  • KD places Comrades on protest alert if Manatt report seems flawed

BAMBOO, St Ann:

K.D. Knight, lead attorney for the People's National Party (PNP) at the Manatt-Dudus commission of enquiry, has put party supporters on demonstration notice if the commissioners' report on the handling of the extradition request for Christopher 'Dudus' Coke appears flawed.

"On Tuesday, I want you to listen carefully to what the commissioners have to say," Knight told a large gathering of PNP supporters at the annual conference of the Bamboo division in North West St Ann on Sunday.

According to Knight: "Man just can't get some money and write any rubbish. It not going so! So Comrades, I want you to be prepared … to march!"

The report, which was considered by Cabinet yesterday, will be tabled in the House of Representatives today.

"There is a rumour that the commissioners have said that civil servants should be blamed for the delay in sending away Mr Dudus. You might very well hear that they want to fire the civil servants, but Dorothy Lightbourne must stay in place, and Bruce Golding must stay in place. I push the rumour aside.

"The report can either reflect what we saw, what we heard, and what we read. If the report does not reflect what we saw and what we read, it can't go so. It can't go so!"

Mocked mair

Knight also mocked government Member of Parliament Gregory Mair for the censure motion he brought against former National Security Minister Peter Phillips.

Mair said Phillips should be censured for committing Jamaica to two memoranda of understanding without the knowledge or permission of the Cabinet.

The motion is to be debated in the House of Representatives next Tuesday.

"They have the majority, and, therefore, it is not impossible that with the majority they can censure Dr Peter Phillips, but if they do that, then he is going to become a hero. Because the two memoranda of understanding that he signed, those two were to help get rid of the criminal elements in this country," Knight said.

The PNP heavyweight chided Mair, saying he brought a censure motion against Phillips but did not bring one "against that pathologically mendacious prime minister".
