From talk to action

MEMBERS OF the diaspora community have praised the fourth staging of the biennial Jamaican Diaspora Convention, saying for the first time it was more than a talk shop.

Some delegates also said they feel satisfied that the Government has been more receptive to their concerns.

Denis St Bernard, a member of the United Kingdom delegation that attended the conference, said there has been a noticeable shift from talk to action.

"For the first time I'm seeing a lot of action things being done as far as the diaspora getting involved in more things here," he told The Gleaner.

Chairman of the Jamaica Diaspora US North-East Region, Patrick Beckford, said the convention was useful because it provided an avenue for dialogue.

"Historically, most disagreements are solved through dialogue," said Beckford.
