Changing of the guard

Two of Jamaica's most iconic blue-chip companies will transition to new leaders today.

At GraceKennedy Limited, Don Wehby takes over as chief executive officer of the food and financial services conglomerate, replacing Douglas Orane who stays on for a year as chairman.

At Lascelles deMercado and Company, group managing director William 'Billy' McConnell leaves after more than three decades of leadership at the spirits conglomerate; making way for a Trinidad appointee, Fraser Thornton, who already sits on the company's board.

Financial director Anthony Bell also departed June 30.

A market filing also advised that three directors have given up their seats on the board, David Henriques, Richard Powell and Michael Fraser, and will be replaced by chartered accountant Richard Downer, Michael Bernard, and lawyer Conrad George. The three men will also replace the exiting directors on the audit committee, effective today, July 1.

Wehby last week named his new team, which remains the same before the transition but will have a new chief financial officer, Frank James, on board on January 1, 2012.

James will understudy current holder of the position, Fay McIntosh starting today up to her announced departure at the end of December.
