Bog Walk gorge to close on Monday

THE BOG Walk gorge in St Catherine will be closed to vehicular traffic for a month beginning Monday, July 4.

The closure will facilitate a multimillion-dollar pipe-laying project being carried out by the National Water Commission (NWC).

During the period of closure, motorists wishing to travel from the direction of Bog Walk or Spanish Town are advised to use the alternative routes through Barry or Sligoville.

Transport and Works Minister Mike Henry, who authorised the closure, says major improvement works have been done along the Barry main road, which was in a deplorable condition.

The NWC had requested the closure of the gorge over six weeks ago, but this was denied by Henry, who stated that the Barry main road had to be improved before such approval could have been granted.

Henry said his ministry would be monitoring the work to ensure that the one-month timeline is kept.
