PM mum on Shanique Myrie matter
PRIME MINISTER Bruce Golding is staying away from the controversial Shanique Myrie matter - at least for the time being.
Speaking to Barbados' Sunday Sun on Friday during a breakat the CARICOM Heads of Government Summit in St Kitts, Golding said his Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Ken Baugh was still looking into the issue.
"It's now at the level of the minister of foreign affairs and in the hands of attorneys for Miss Myrie, and because of that I don't want to comment," he said.
No new developments
Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart said afterwards that the matter was not before the St Kitts meeting and that communication was still being passed between the governments of Jamaica and Barbados.
He said Barbados had recently received a letter from then Attorney General Dorothy Lightbourne, but that there were no new developments.
Myrie has accused an immigration officer at the Grantley Adams Airport in Bridgetown, Barbados, of an improper cavity search as she attempted to enter that country in March.
News of the incident led to outrage in Jamaica and Barbados state officials invited Myrie back into the country to identify the individual who allegedly assaulted her.
