Munster Road cop to hear verdict this month
The policeman who is accused of being the mastermind behind the theft of several guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition from the police armoury will know his fate later this month.
Yesterday, Supreme Court judge Horace Marsh, after hearing legal submissions from defence lawyer Valerie Neita Robertson, said he would begin his summation on July 18. After the summation, the judge will give the verdict.
Sergeant Russell Robinson, who is in custody, has been on trial in the Gun Court since last year.
The Crown closed its case on Wednesday and Russell gave an unsworn statement from the dock denying that he was involved in the theft. He said he was 'set up' by senior police officers.
In camera trial
Dirk Harrison, deputy director of public prosecutions, led evidence at the in camera trial that in February last year Robinson was held on Munster Road in Kingston 2 with 18 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition belonging to the police armoury.
He is facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Robinson was employed to the police armoury at the time of the theft.
