DR KENNETH Thaxter was installed as the new president of the Rotary Club of Mandeville during a ceremony in the parish last Thursday.

Besides being a long-serving Rotarian, Thaxter is also an ordained minister in the Anglican Church.

He is a former principal of Church Teachers' College and was lauded for making that institution one of the nation's premier training platform for teachers. The recipient of many awards for service to community and the education process, Thaxter said he was humbled by the confidence the members of the club have shown him. The new president said he will lead the organisation, which was established in 1964, in the tradition of the Rotary Club's motto, 'service above self'.

Outgoing president, Keith O'Gilvie, in handing over the baton to Thaxter during a ceremony at the Mandeville Hotel, expressed confidence in his leadership qualities. Businessman Basil Cameron of Cameron Industries is the president elect, while insurance executive Dale Greaves-Smith and Wendy Freckleton were elected vice-president and secretary, respectively.
