Census takers will be out in numbers today to Sunday in targeted areas islandwide from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. to complete the count for the 2011 Population and Housing Census.

In a release yesterday, the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) said the targeted areas are communities in St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St James and St Ann.

"STATIN, the organisation conducting the 2011 Census, is making a final appeal to the public to engage the census takers across the country, and to provide honest answers to the questions being asked given the importance of this exercise to national development," the release stated. "Members of the public who will not be at home during the hours 8 a.m.-7 p.m. are being asked to call 926-5311 to set an appointment."

STATIN noted that the count must be completed as the information that is collected provides data on population size, age and sex composition, geographic distribution, housing characteristics and facilities that have crucial bearing on the social aspects of all households.
