PNP comments on Lucius' candidacy

THE PEOPLE'S National Party (PNP) has confirmed Gleaner reports that health issues could torpedo plans by former Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas to enter representational politics.

But the party says no final decision has yet been made on whether Thomas will contest the next general election on the party's ticket.

Thomas has been selected by the PNP to represent it in North West St Ann, but sources in the constituency told The Gleaner that he called it a day because of health concerns.

"At this point, Comrade Thomas has taken no final decision on the matter of his continuation as candidate/caretaker and the party is taking steps to provide him with full organisational support that will enable the constituency machinery to remain at optimal performance, even as he takes the time to resolve his personal concerns," the PNP said in a release yesterday

"We are hopeful that Comrade Thomas will return to full health so as to enable him to continue to provide the high-quality representation he has brought to his work as a parliamentary candidate and representative of the people of North West St Ann," added the PNP.

The North West St Ann seat is held by the Jamaica Labour Party's Othneil Lawrence.
