CAMPAIGN CHAIRMAN of the Jamaica Labour Party Karl Samuda yesterday dismissed speculations that he had quit the position amid a flurry of claims and counterclaims within the party that he had resigned.

Samuda's reaction to the claims left no doubt that a rift which had developed between him and JLP Leader Bruce Golding during the Manatt-Dudus saga had not healed, and may have widened the crack in the already fractious party.

"I have written no resignation and we are a party of rules and we have a process and I am sure that the party in its wisdom will ensure that that process is followed," Samuda told The Gleaner yesterday.

Asked if he had been approached by any member of the officer corps of the JLP, Samuda's response was a sharp "No."

And reacting to queries that he was being pressured to resign Samuda, who stepped down as general secretary late last year, declared, "No, no one can pressure me, they may have their private talk but no one had expressed those sentiments to me."

He said people have questioned him about his continuing as campaign chairman. "But I have not been approached by any officer of the party, " he insisted.
