Exhibitors from more than 30 countries have confirmed their participation in this year's International Expo, its organisers, Consular Corps, of Jamaica said Wednesday.

The trade show is set for October 9-11 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

Arnold Foote, dean of the Consular Corps and president of the World Federation of Consuls, said confirmed countries include Guyana, Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Belgium, Turkey, Latvia, and South Korea.

The event will showcase 40 booths, all of which are already sold, and the best of which will receive the newly created Governor General's Trophy at the close of the expo.

A Scotiabank trophy and the Consular Corps of Jamaica trophy and five consolation prizes will also be awarded.

The trade expo was first introduced in 2002. This year's lead sponsor, Scotiabank, has been on board since its inception.

The size of the event has increased exponentially over the years, Foote told Sunday Business. The expo is meant to be an annual event but has missed some years, which Foote said was due to inadequate support. The entire event, he said, is dependent on volunteerism and sponsors.
