Half-Way Tree may be considered the Grand Central Station of Kingston. It's the heart of the city and in such a busy hub there has to be a Wendy's and Domino's to create some kind of balance to the many fast-food joints already in the capital.

Last Thursday, September 1, the duo food giants opened its door at Central Plaza along Constant Spring Road. While it may be an unlikely location as there is not much room for parking, owners and operators of the two brands, Wisynco Foods' aim is to bring two world-famous restaurants to the city's busiest corridor. According to Wisynco's director of group finance, Andrew Mahfood, Half-Way Tree accounts for a significant number of commuters, who pass through the town daily. Therefore, it is their duty to provide them with great food; Mahfood was speaking at the opening of the restaurant.

Great investment

He also noted that Domino's and Wendy's are not just food outlets but have provided 40 jobs and an investment of more than half-a-million United States dollars. He said that with their new expansion plan, they will be looking at strengthening their presence in the Corporate Area and looking, as well, at downtown, Kingston and rural Jamaica as they seek to open three more restaurants in the next 12 months.

This new location is unlike the others and has both Domino's and Wendy's under the same roof which they believe embodies Wisynco's mission "to improve the lives of our people," in addition to offering consumers in the Constant Spring, Half-Way Tree and neighbouring environs two great dining options with wonderful diverse menues in one location.

Both restaurants are not necessarily the cheapest, but Mahfood noted that they have tailored some of their prices to suit the market. He said that they will be serving pizza by the slice at Domino's, starting at $165 and combos from $295 at Wendy's. Also, there will be a back-to-school special where students with identification can get a free junior frosty with the purchase of regular meals at Wendy's. In addition, drinks will be refilled for no extra cost at the location.

"Despite the fact that we are still facing tough economic challenges, Mahfood explained Wisynco's reasoning for opening the new restaurant." He said, "We have seen growth in both brands and an increase in transactions, and we feel we needed more exposure; and what better spot than the Half-Way Tree area to get it?"

The restaurant will be opening from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Plus, Domino's will also be providing delivery service to Constant Spring, Half-Way Tree, and neighbouring areas at no extra cost.
