In her darkest hour, a stranger stepped in and made things better. Sonia Lambert, a struggling single mother whose tale of falling on hard times was highlighted in Arts and Education two weeks ago, has received a helping hand.

"You don't understand how happy, how thankful I am," she said, earlier this week.

Lambert makes crochet swimsuits, shoes and bags and sells them in the Papine Arcade. She is the mother of a teenage son. Sales of her creations have fallen dramatically in recent times and medical bills from a botched operation on her hand have been piling up. To add to her worries, Lambert was under threat of being evicted from the arcade where she has been selling for more than eight years. She owed $30,000 in rent and had no way of getting the money.

Stranger came calling

But, soon after the story was published, Lambert was called upon by a stranger.

"I was here one day, just as usual and a woman came up to me," said Lambert.

"She said to me that she read the story and was moved by God to help me. She said she wanted to help me with the rent," Lambert's voice cracked as she related the events.

"The lady say to me that she not going to tell me her name, because God didn't tell her to give me her name. God only told her to help me."

Lambert explained that the woman gave her enough money to pay off her entire rent debt, ensuring she would not be kicked out of the arcade.

Lambert sobbed as she tried to explain how much the stranger's act of kindness meant to her.

"All I could do was hug her. She didn't want anything from me. This complete stranger come and just help me like this. It's like God sent me an angel," she said.

The woman gave Lambert the entire $30,000 needed to clear the debt completely.

"I fall on my knees and pray that night and just thank God that even though times hard, he still sends angels to help those in need." said Lambert.
